hard-drive software-raid raid-1 lvm zfs
I have the same problem most people have: how to create a reliable personal storage solution with the fact that:Hard drives fail with alarming regularity. Losing files is unacceptable. I will buy a new HDD from time to time. Inevitably, the best price/GB is a different size than the last HDD purchase. #2 means that over time I have a heterogeneous collection of disks. I want to use them all, and failed disks will generally be replaced by larger disks. Data integrity and reliability is more im

hard-drive windows-8 raid raid-1 mirroring
So Windows 8 is out and I have a new motherboard. I wish to create a RAID 1 coupling between two HDDs — for storage purposes only (my OS is on an SSD) — but I don’t know which is the best route to take.My motherboard (Z77 chipset) comes with Intel Firmware RAID, but since I only wish to use my RAID for storage, I wondered if I might be better to use Windows 8 Disk Mirroring? Can anyone advise which is better? Or perhaps the pros and cons of each, if that’s too contentious? I just can’t see the

windows-7 windows raid data-recovery raid-1
I have a Western Digital MyBook Studio II configured into RAID1 (2×1TB) and connected to a Windows 7 machine via USB 2.0. RAID is done through a controller in the enclosure – I’ve never seen each of the drives separately.I recently reinstalled Windows from scratch and finally decided to run semi-regular backups. For that purpose, I imaged the pristine install and saved the VHD on the external drive. I then moved it to a different folder on the drive to make sure no backup software overwrites it.

nas raid-1
I hope this is the right place to post this question.I’ve been searching for a while, to find an answer to this. I’m trying to find out what is a better approach for our household.Buy two NAS devices, and have the main one backup to the other one every night. Both will have a 3TB hard drive. Get one NAS device, with two bays and RAID-1. And use two 3TB hard drives in them. Both approaches result in 3TB being available for storage. The first prevents most data from being lost (a maximum of 24 hour

windows-7 raid software-raid raid-1
I’ve just ordered two new hard drives for my main desktop and a copy of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I’d like to do a clean install of Windows 7 onto the new drives (leaving my old Windows XP Professional boot partition around for a while in case something goes disastrously wrong, etc.). I want to have them set up in mirrored (RAID 1) mode.My understanding is that Windows 7 Pro can do software mirroring, but can I set this up directly at install time? If so, how? Note that I’d l
