linux usb disconnect
I’m writing a system (X-Platform Windows/Linux) that talks to a custom device using an FTDI USB chip. I use their D2XX driver for device open/close/read/write. So far, so good. I need to know when the device is disconnected so the program can respond gracefully. At present, under Windows the application receives a sudden unexpected close. Under Linux, when the device is disconnected, there is a sgementation fault. I have found informaiton under Windows about listening for the WM_DEVICECHANG

I’m attempting to get my USB driver to enumerate properly on Windows 7, but I’m experiencing some unexpected (to me) behavior.Everything follows the expected order of operations – that is, Windows issues the following commands: Get_device_descriptor() Set_Address() Get_configuration_descriptor()At this point, I expect Windows to provide the Set_configuration() command, but instead, it doesn’t send anything and my device is shown as being enumerated. Is there any reason why Windows would not se

Some background: I’m trying to make the caps lock light on an external keyboard light up on-command when I run a command from the command line. Ideally it would be scriptable, so that I can use it for alerts and things (I disassembled the keyboard).I got this command which looks like it should work:fd=fdopen(“/dev/console”); ioctl(fd, 0x4B32, 0x04);When I try to run this command on either OS X or on a Ubuntu server I have laying around, this happens:me@server1:~$ fd=fdopen(“/dev/console”); ioctl

linux drivers usb kernel-modules
I’m having trouble with unexpected characters being sent on a USB port with the cdc_acm driver. What makes this all the more perplexing is that the code runs fine on Ubuntu 12.04 (3.2 kernel) but fails (the subject of this question) on Centos 6 (3.6 kernel)The USB device is a Bluegiga BLED112 Bluetooth Smart dongle. Its embedded microcontroler will reset any time there in unexpected input on it’s USB interface. The test code opens the port, writes 4 bytes (a hello message) and expects to read a

windows-7 usb partitioning usb-flash-drive
Recently I purchased an ADATA C802 8GB flash drive. Since the drive was new I decided to run some of the HD Tune Pro (v4.50) performance tests on it, mostly just for the heck of it. To avoid accidentally destroying data HD Tune refuses to write to a drive unless there are no partitions on the drive. If you do attempt to write to a drive with partitions, it posts the message “Writing is disabled. To enable writing please remove all partitions.”As you would expect, the ADATA came formatted with a

windows linux mac usb umount
Why do macs require a usb drive to be ejected, but windows and linux do not? Is a umount occuring on the mac?…if so why doesnt linux need a umount?…also if so, what is the windows equivalent of umount? It also seems that mac warns against “loosing data” as if it is always transferring data…why is this? What is the worse possible scenario of unplugging a flash drive without umounting it on mac, and why doesn’t this occur on linux? What is the worst possible scenario of unplugging a flash drive

usb ethernet adapter rj-45
I want to use RJ45 type of cables to make a 10m USB2 extension. Is it possible using two USB to Ethernet adapters (even without drivers so they act as USB to RJ45 adapters, not as Ethernet ports). If not, I only found USB1 to RJ45/CAT5 and very (compared to HDMI equivalents) expensive USB2 to RJ45/CAT5.Here’s a list of those cables by one manufacturer: http://www.lindy.co.uk/usb-firewire/usb-converters-extenders/
