windows-7 task-manager
When I right click on my task bar and click on Start Task Manager it gives me an error Windows cannot find”C:\windows\system32\taskmgr.exe” Makesure you have typed the name correctlyand try again. So I tried executing task manager from system32 directory, still it gives me the same error. Has my task manager gone corrupt ? If so how can I reinstall it?Thanks.Additional information for the case:running sfc /verifyonly resulted in Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations. O

I was looking through my Task Manager today and saw something called Runtime Broker running:I’ve never seen this in previous versions of Windows. What is it? What does it do?

windows-7 64-bit task-manager visual-basic runtime-error
I really enjoy using DTaskManager as an alternative to Windows TaskManager, but recently I’ve been getting Runtime Error ‘5’ messages. It looks like DTaskManager was programmed in Visual Basic 6, but it is quite powerful. I’m running Windows 7 Enterprise x64 so I suspect that the error might be coming from a Visual Basic runtime problem. I’m not sure which registry keys to edit to fix the Runtime Error ‘5’ message.

I have this MFC program that when I kill it with task manager I get an exception on my program and then it crashes.I want to get the event from the task manager, when it is going to kill my process and close my program gracefully.I understand that there are few methods that the task manager is using in order to kill a process.1) From the applications tab, someone told me it is sending WM_CLOSE message to my application’s main visible window, And if my application is not going down after few seco

windows-xp task-manager resources handle
I’ve noticed that when browser (tested with Firefox and Chrome) has been running for a long time, it stops connecting sites. I found out with task manager that the count of handles for browser process is 90000+. When shutdown the browser handle count starts going down but stops at some point and only reasonable fast way to shutdown browser is to kill the process. Also “System” process has high handle count which goes down when browser is killed.Since I can see this phenomenon on two different br

windows process task-manager
I know it seems counter-productive, but I was looking for a task manager that it’s more limited than the one that comes with Window. The reason is that some servers that I use (but not manage) have disable the Task Manager. I also have to support users who use these servers. I can relate to that, since the simple user can do more than he’s supposed to do. He could kill process that he’s not supposed to kill, for example. But this also has its problems since it’s not easy to kill unresponsive use

windows-7 virus task-manager trojan worm
Had a nasty virus. Got a trojan through a patch to a game I have played a lot (world of tanks). The trojan was named Win32: Patched-ZX. Which opened up for several rootkit(according to AV) and 3 worms (forgot name).Got them all deleted but ever since then my task manager won’t start. when I press ctrl+alt+del and select task manager it shows up as a icon in my small taskbar in lower right corner but nothing opens. after a few seconds it closes down and dissapers. Same thing is happening to my CC

I can’t use Task Manager on Windows 8.Whichever way I open it (keyboard shortcuts, .exe in System32, taskbar right-click menu), it only stays open for second. It does not simply freeze and crash as within the second it stays open I can click the ‘More details’ button and it would begin to respond before it closes.I tried sfc, it reported finding problems it could not fix. I manually replaced all the problematic files in the CBS.log; this fixed other problems I’d had but Task Manager still wouldn

Why is it that ending a task in XP/Vista takes so much longer than ending the underlying process itself? WHat’s the relationship between a task and a process from an OS perspective?

windows-7 boot task-manager
Recently I had a power outage while watching a movie. With the power back on, Windows doesn’t load as expected. Symptoms are:Windows 7 taskbar appears, but program icons and Recycle Bin don’t; I can’t launch the task manager; The mouse indicates endless processes.Loading windows in Safe Mode and then running System Restore helps, but that’s not a good option. Is it a virus, or has Windows crashed?

android service task-manager
By using START_STICKY , if my service is crashed/killed by task manager, it automatically restarts. I see that there are a list of services which gets restarted but in a different order. I want to prioritize this restarting of the service so that it will start sooner by placing to the front of the queue. It typically takes 15 seconds to 45 seconds to re-start the service. Is there a way to prioritize or start this service sooner than the other.

windows process task-manager
From what I know, everytime we want to stop an app (or a frozen app), we will go TaskManager, select the app, Go to Process and terminate the process. “Ending Process” is preferred over “Ending Task” (sometimes “ending task” doesn’t work anyway).Image for End Task:Image for End Process:However, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb726964.aspx:As you examine processes, note that although applications have a main process, a single application may start multiple processes. windows-8 windows-explorer task-manager window-manager
When Windows Explorer (the window manager) crashed on Windows 7, one had only to open the task manager by hitting Ctrl+Shift+Esc, choose File -> New process and run explorer again. Actually, sometimes I killed Explorer and re-ran it myself – if killed, it doesn’t save settings and that’s helpful if system screwed your desktop icon setup.Recently, the window manager of my Windows 8 crashed. When it did, I tried to run task manager with the shortcut I mentioned, but nothing happened. Ctrl+Alt+Del

internet-explorer malware task-manager
Occasionally I’ll stumble upon a website that pops up one of those annoying dialogs. [Using IE 9 with block popups (medium) configured]As long as the dialog is open I can’t navigate away from the page. At this point I usually choose to kill the IE process in Windows Task Manager. Since IE attempts to auto-recover stuck tabs I sometimes find myself in an endless loop. Dialog pops up. Open task manager Find and kill the iexplorer.exe process IE detects that the tab died, and reloads the page. D

task-manager lotus-notes restart
The client can not be restarted, even if the notes.exe and nlotes.exe tasks stopped in the task manager. Only rebooting helps, but that is not a user friendly solution. This occures on Lenovo laptops. How to restart the client only? Is there any additional task should be stopped?

windows-8 hard-drive crash task-manager chkdsk
I ran into a problem where my Windows 8 computer all of a sudden ran really slowly. After opening up Task Manager, I noticed that 50% Disk Activity was being used, even though the total of all the apps running were about 0.5 MB/s in Disk Activity. So, I restarted the computer, and since then, I haven’t been able to boot into Windows. So, I ran chkdsk from the Windows 8 DVD, and it’s been running for 20 hours so far. It’s currently on Stage 4 of 5, on file 182,000 of 251,000 (approximately). When

windows windows-8 crash windows-8.1 task-manager
There could be a number of reasons for Task Manager crashing. I believe I am doing the right thing in making this a community wiki. Here is my original post before I found the cause. My task manager crashes in Windows 8.1. I open it using the right click on the start menu or using the keyboard shortcut. It will crash immediately or when I show more details and try to interact with the view menu for “always on top” and “minimize to tray”. The program just disappears and only by looking into the ev
