The equation is simply x=5

slope is term used to describe the incline of a straight line when plotted on an x-y axis. as you know, 2 points define a line so using (x,y) you have these two points.

slope-intercept formula is y=mx+b where m is slope and b is the intercept

A line passing through (5,6) and (5,8) is a vertical line. (no slope) There is no y-intercept. The equation of the line is simply x = 5.

That is x = 5 for all y.

in your case you have two points lying on a line. Each point has the same x coordinate so this is line parallel to Y-axis. It’s equation is x=5.
It intersects x axis as point (5,0)

y^2-y^1 ———–

x^2-x^1

Becasue you X value is always 5, as defined by the two points, your equation is simply x=5

Slope intercept form is y = mx + c where m is the slope and c is where the line crosses the y axis. Given the points you have you find the slope by taking the difference in y and dividing it by the difference in x. So 8 – 6 / 5 – 5 so your slope is 2/1 or just simply 2. Ok now you use the standard formula for an equation y – y1=M(x-x1) imputting your coordinates such. y – 5 = 2(x – 5) expand the bracket y – 5 = 2x – 10 add 5 to both sides y = 2x -5

and thats your answer.

Originally posted 2013-11-09 22:45:36.

hey, im little confused about writing an equation in slope-intercept that has a slope that is undefined. i have to write an equation using these points (5,6) & (5,8) can someone explain this to me step by step?
