{"id":6254,"date":"2014-04-14T11:04:32","date_gmt":"2014-04-14T11:04:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unknownerror.org\/index.php\/2014\/04\/14\/perfmon-the-parameter-is-incorrect-error-when-trying-to-connect-to-another-computer-collection-of-common-programming-errors\/"},"modified":"2014-04-14T11:04:32","modified_gmt":"2014-04-14T11:04:32","slug":"perfmon-the-parameter-is-incorrect-error-when-trying-to-connect-to-another-computer-collection-of-common-programming-errors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unknownerror.org\/index.php\/2014\/04\/14\/perfmon-the-parameter-is-incorrect-error-when-trying-to-connect-to-another-computer-collection-of-common-programming-errors\/","title":{"rendered":"Perfmon &#8211; &quot;The parameter is incorrect.&quot; error when trying to connect to another computer-Collection of common programming errors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\ufeff\ufeffI&#8217;m hoping someone has run into this before and may be able to shed some light on this issue.\u00a0 In a test environment, we need to be able to connect from one computer to another in perfmon.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>Issue:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On &#8220;&#8221;..<\/p>\n<p>Open perfmon.exe &gt; right-click on &#8220;Performance&#8221; &gt; select &#8220;Connect to another computer.&#8221; &gt; enter the name of &#8220;&#8221; \u00a0&gt; get the following error.<\/p>\n<p>############################################<\/p>\n<p>Window Title: Performance Monitor<\/p>\n<p>Error:\u00a0 When attempting to connect to the remote computer the following system error occurred:<\/p>\n<p>The parameter is incorrect.<\/p>\n<p>############################################<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/unknownerror.org\/Problem\/index\/49521081\/perfmon-quotthe-parameter-is-incorrectquot-error-when-trying-to-connect-to-another-computer\/\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:\u00a0<\/strong> I am using just two servers to test this, but this behavior occurs on all servers in the domain.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>Environment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Server 2008 R2<\/p>\n<p>Single domain<\/p>\n<p>Firewalls disabled through GPO<\/p>\n<p>Performance Logs and Alerts exception created in firewall via GPO<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>Troubleshooting tests done so far:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-Verified open network communication.<\/p>\n<p>-Verified DNS functioning properly.<\/p>\n<p>-Turned on Network Discovery.<\/p>\n<p>-My domain account is a member of domain admins and explicitly configured as local admin on both servers.<\/p>\n<p>-My account, domain users, and the AD machine object for the opposite server are all in the &#8220;Event Log Readers&#8221;, &#8220;Performance Log Users&#8221;, and &#8220;Performance Monitor Users&#8221; groups on both servers.<\/p>\n<p>-&#8220;Remote Registry&#8221;, &#8220;Performance Counter DLL Host&#8221;, and &#8220;Performance Logs &amp; Alerts&#8221; services are running on both servers.<\/p>\n<p>-I have granted Full Control to &#8220;HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\Perflib&#8221; for &#8220;Local Service&#8221;, &#8220;Performance Log Users&#8221;, and &#8220;Performance Monitor Users&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>-I have tested changing the &#8220;Performance Logs and Alerts&#8221; service to run under a different service account, but this doesn&#8217;t work.\u00a0 I have seen perfmon working in other environments, w\/o having to make this change.<\/p>\n<p>-Tested connecting w\/ &#8220;\\\\&#8221; in front of the name, FQDN, and IP.\u00a0 Tested connecting directly to the name, FQDN, and IP.\u00a0 Tested connecting to C$, admin$, and a manually created share.<\/p>\n<p>-Verified &#8220;Local Service&#8221; is set in &#8220;Log on as batch job&#8221; in local sec policy<\/p>\n<p>-Through the course of making changes, I&#8217;ve restarted services and rebooted the machines numerous times.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Every forum I&#8217;ve checked online seems to end w\/ &#8220;has anyone found a solution to this issue?&#8221;.\u00a0 There are no events that get written to event logs for this error.<\/p>\n<p>Does anybody have any ideas on this one?<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Thanks!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\ufeff\ufeffI&#8217;m hoping someone has run into this before and may be able to shed some light on this issue.\u00a0 In a test environment, we need to be able to connect from one computer to another in perfmon. \u00a0Issue: On &#8220;&#8221;..
